Somerford Arms Little Somerford

The Somerford Arms was rescued from closure by Little Somerford residents a couple of years ago. The first time I spotted it in 2012, it was still closed for refurbishment and since then I have always been on an irregularly scheduled bus and didn’t want to get stranded. The day’s run gave me an opportunity to try it out.

The joint was jumping, too, when I came in and was met at the bar by friendly folk that took a polite but seemingly genuine interest in my decrepit state. “Did you run here?” Errr…yes. “Where from?” Swindon, via Malmesbury (which they seemed to realise meant I was on my 22nd or so mile). Handing me my cider and change, she asked, “much farther to go?” Others popped by for a few moments chat, as well.  Quite the change from the King’s Arms, earlier, and even a vast improvement on the Rose and Crown. Worth a bus layover, anytime.
