Cathedral Hotel Salisbury

Our second beverage while waiting for our dinner spot to open was at the Cathedral Hotel, a kind of standard early 20th Century façade with a decent beer garden and an okay selection of not especially well kept ales.  On the other hand, the staff are professional (save for their cellaring), courteous and pleasant.  Not my usual cup, but it probably suits a wider swath than the sort of pub I do like (see Queen’s Arms just before this one).

The Cathedral Hotel sits just across from the Red Lion which we left without ever seeing an employee. This was the third time I had unsuccessfully visited the Lion (the most recent at the end of a long run last summer, chronicled here).  I’ve been ignored and treated rudely in this place but never served.  Jackie usually doesn’t believe me when I rant (with good reason and 30 years experience), so we went into the courtyard, finally found our way to the bar inside, and after standing there a little less than a minute she said, “fuck this place…I’m not in the mood for this.”  Told ya. [Note: since they aren’t getting a fourth shot, I’ve included my rant against the Red Lion here…apologies to the Cathedral, but fuck the Red Lion!]

fuck the Red Lion Salisbury
