George Bradford-on-Avon old sign

The run plan was to leave Trowbridge for Bradford-on-Avon and to grab a beer at the George, the only pub I was certain had early doors.  However, the house is run by a Michelin-starred chef so I sort of dreaded the experience: another bleeding gastropub with emphasis on gastro.

My worries were allayed when I received a friendly welcome and a reasonable (and reasonably priced) pint of Butcombe Moxee IPA, a florally hopped nectar with a picture of George Washington on the pump clip — in the George, with hops from Washington…cute.

Out in the meticulously landscaped garden with me there were folks getting served spectacular looking food from very professional waitstaff but without the rut of privilege and superficiality that ruins a lot of these places.  It is definitely a pub that serves as a fine restaurant…not the wrong way around.  Well done, kids.

Here’s a map link.
