New Inn Bath sign

Patience is sometimes rewarded and after the dire Trowbridge House, the uncomfortably upscale Hop Pole, and the thoroughly shit Thief I was due a treat. I found it in the form of the New Inn, a few hundred feet along the road.

The bartender was grand and the Henry’s IPA perfect. He knows everything about the neighbourhood having run this and another bar since moving to the area 30 years ago. He also gave me a great tip-off on the Scallop Shell fish restaurant next door with which the New Inn has a symbiotic relationship (when the SS is fully booked, you can wait in the New Inn and someone will call when your table is ready).

And, this is a classic old boozer with none of the pretense of a modern bar. Really an excellent find but not a surprising one…someone in the drinks trade on this road had to fill the niche market that comprises drinkers. It might as well be this place; find it here.
