Swan and Bottle, Uxbridge, Middlesex   1 comment

Leg one of the day’s run was from Hillingdon Underground Station to the Grand Union Canal where the massive Swan & Bottle confronted me with this dilemma: stop for a pint or trudge on?  At the very least, I reckoned, a brief look at their wares couldn’t hurt.

So, I took the cider out to the beer garden and joined the other athletes.  One woman, obviously an endurance jock, sat with her trainer behind her four and his five empty wine glasses (plus one each not so empty).  There were several competitive vapers distributed here and there (new technology is fucking up smoking even faster than fibreglass and composites improved pole vaulting).

But, all good things, et cetera.  The next segment of the journey would be close to 3 humid miles down a narrow pathway; I reluctantly left the Olympic Village and continued.
