Tony’s, Willesden, London   Leave a comment

Tony’s is another Irish bar in Willesden, but it is massive and seems to be the most popular of the three on tonight’s crawl (Angie’s III and McGovern’s).  At least, that’s true on Friday evening when folks without bank accounts clamour to use the cheque cashing service at the little window at the back of the saloon bar; I don’t miss those days.

I entered via the Public bar and it was all racing on the telly and basically a sausage fest.  I got my drink and went next door to the frilly saloon bar (for the ladies) and suffered the Radio 1 pop piped in in exchange for a bit of RTE News on the tellies.  At one point they were showing a bit of the Paralympics and this blind sprinter from Ireland won.  The guy who’d been talking about running with me said, “you’d get chased down sprightly by this blind bugger, you would.”  I pointed out that you didn’t need to be faster than him, just able to make a few turns.  We didn’t seem to be on the same page, though.
