St Stephens Tavern, Westminster, London   1 comment

I squeezed through a bunch of suits at the St Stephen’s Tavern and ordered a pint of Badger.  “There’s a five pound minimum.”  Shit.  “Okay, 86 the beer and give me a double whisky.”  The two lobbyists I was shouting between stopped talking, looked at me in my sweaty running gear, and raised their pints my way.

Late afternoon on a Friday was probably not the ideal time to crash into the nearest pub to the Palace of Westminster and the centres of civil service at Whitehall, but with the Tories away in Birmingham at their annual conference it may have been as good a time as any to tick this one off the list.

Best line was when a guy carrying four pints followed me out to the smokers’ area and yelled out to his mates, “okay, who had the shandy?” and the crowd catcalled the lot of them.  Funny.
