Coach and Horses, Beckenham, London   3 comments

Pub #2014:

I ran into Beckenham hoping to find a pub on my map called the Goose.  I once, in the mid-80s, entered a Shamanistic trance and emerged on the other side (there were no drugs involved, by the way) both riding and being a massive goose, soaring over a primeval landscape.  I am meant to understand that the Goose is my spirit animal but Jackie thinks it is a goose that has flown into an awful lot of double-glazed and ballistic windows.

But, I didn’t find the Goose which may or may not (probably not) mean something profound.  Instead, I spent the time it takes to drink a fine, dark ale watching women’s rugby at the Coach & Horses.  It was on, but visible to me, in the back room, to the left of the guy with the monk’s hair who kept giving me the stink eye, perhaps because everyone else was focused on the Premier League footie on the other teles.  I don’t know what his problem was, but he oddly gave me a courteous nod as he left just ahead of me.
