The Aeronaut, Acton, London   Leave a comment

Pub #2080:

I was sitting in the Red Lion and Pineapple when I spotted the Aeronaut and thought that it looked like a grand pub to visit. I didn’t get back to the main bits of Acton for a while and planned a New Year’s Day run down there only to find it still surrounded by fire engines and barricades … bad timing. It finally reopened at the end of November but this was the first run I’ve done past it during regular business hours.

Seems more an amusement park than even a performance space but the bar seems pubby enough (except for the upscale Acton prices). The bartenders make up for bouncer bulk with height enhanced by an 8″ step up from the public-to-staff sides of the bar.

I can’t be certain that anyone in the post-work crowd was actually old enough to be in a pub (much less out without the supervision of a responsible adult). Most of this crowd was made up of discrete groups of young women which might explain the fetid pop music piped in. It definitely seems to be a girl-friendly space right down to the hair salon section I appeared to have chosen:
