The George, Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey   Leave a comment

Pub #2083:

I caught a bus from Heathrow and started the day’s run on the outskirts of Staines-upon-Thames, the putative hometown of Ali G.  Believable, that one, as is the story I haven’t fact checked about the ancient town adding the “-upon-Thames” to make it sound classier.  Nothing wrong with Staines, by the way, and every county needs a Slough, a Swindon, a Telford, etc.

I steered toward the George, the Wetherspoons at the far end of town, and carried a stout to the upstairs dining area.  Normally, I frame the pictures better than above; but, the sloping angles of the floor toward the American-style diners at the back is a good demonstration of the event horizon near multiple supermassive bodies in close proximity to one another — an experimentalist’s companion piece to the theoretical work in the field.
