The Old Tiger’s Head, Lee Green, London (Saturday Run part 3)   2 comments

Pub #2095:

When I left the Rising Sun, I had 4½ minutes to run to reach 45 overall and be eligible for Pub Stop 3.  At less than a minute to 60 overall, I finally crossed paths with a suitable looking boozer, The Old Tiger’s Head.  Stuck for a moment on a traffic island, I looked back and spotted the NEW Tiger’s Head, a brick-and-red-sandstone treasure:

Alas, it was closed, so I continued into the Old Tiger’s Head.  A Camille Saint-Saëns chamber piece was the unlikely song on the juke box while some unnaturally energetic wide-boys discussed the pub’s rock past with a hipster at the end of the bar.

The Saint-Saëns ended as the geezers’ dog waddle-limped his fat ass over for a head scratch and a pat on the side; just then, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring flooded the room.  A proper version with choir and orchestra.  This is a weird pub.

With about 50 seconds running until licensed to hit the fourth pub, I veered toward Lewisham.
