The Flora Sandes, Thornton Heath, London   1 comment

Pub #2098:

I planned a run from Thornton Heath for no better reason than it sounds like Horton Heat and I haven’t covered the area very thoroughly.  Also, the Flora Sandes sits right across from the station.

It is a classic, old style pub (why on earth this has been snubbed from the Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors while gaffs like the Falcon and the Spread Eagle are included is beyond me) with Squash matches from the Commonwealth Games on the tele. I took my Oyster Stout to a window seat near a fellow trying to arrange a drug purchase and watched the rain fall.

After the previous day’s debacle caused by bringing a map for an area I wasn’t travelling to, I printed off a decent map of this run which would, ideally, take me to two other pubs on the way NNW a few miles. I finished my drink and promptly misread the map heading ENE a couple of miles before ditching the now useless carte. Day two of zenning weekend had begun.
